HydroMARK™ Plus Breast Biopsy Site Marker Hummingbird™ Shape

CINCINNATI, OHIO – September 12, 2024 – Mammotome is excited to announce an addition to the recently launched HydroMARK™ Plus Breast Biopsy Site Marker line. Renowned for its innovative Wings that Cling™ technology, the HydroMARK™ Plus marker is part of one of the top-selling breast biopsy marker brands in the world.1 A new shape known as the Hummingbird™ marker is now available, which along with the Dragonfly™ shape, provides clinicians with two unique options within the HydroMARK™ Plus marker line. This latest addition further solidifies the company’s commitment to delivering leading solutions for breast care.

The HydroMARK™ Plus marker line, introduced in 2023, continues to deliver the unmatched benefits of the original HydroMARK™ Breast Biopsy Site Marker portfolio, including its exclusive hydrogel technology. The hydrogel-based carrier exhibits remarkable properties, expanding over 200% of its original size and achieving exceptional anechoic characteristics within 24 hours.2 This longevity allows for sustained ultrasound visibility for up to 12 months, even in patients undergoing Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy (NACT), ensuring reliable monitoring and assessment.3,4 Building upon these remarkable features, the HydroMARK™ Plus marker's unique shapes, combined with the hydrogel carrier, significantly enhances ultrasound visibility, streamlines locating procedures, and mitigates displacement during surgical excision compared to the original HydroMARK™ markers.5,6,7,8

The introduction of the new Hummingbird™ shape expands the options available to radiologists and surgeons, particularly in cases involving multiple biopsies of the breasts or lymph nodes. Both the Dragonfly™ shape and the new Hummingbird™ shape include "wings" that attach to the tissue, effectively mitigating displacement from the biopsy site during surgical excision.6 This feature empowers surgeons to achieve their procedural goals with precision and confidence.

“We are thrilled to introduce the Hummingbird™ shape to the HydroMARK™ Plus marker portfolio,” said Mammotome Vice President and General Manager Ben Sandefur. “This additional shape enables the HydroMARK™ Plus marker to be utilized in more clinical scenarios, which empowers breast radiologists and surgeons to expand how they utilize the HydroMARK™ marker from biopsy to localization to surgery. This launch further demonstrates our commitment to developing new breast care technology for our customers and the patients they serve.”

By continually pushing the boundaries of innovation, Mammotome strives to provide healthcare professionals with cutting-edge solutions that enhance patient care and improve clinical outcomes. The new HydroMARK™ Plus Breast Biopsy Site Marker Hummingbird™ shape will be available to clinicians in the United States this fall (2024) with plans to expand to Canada and other select countries across the globe.
